1960s walnut and birch plywood kitchen

Handmade cabinets with solid walnut and birch ply

This kitchen was made off plan for a new build property in Wirral, with solid walnut and walnut veneered birch plywood kitchen cabinets.

The kitchen started with a 1960s inspired theme, which can be seen in the integral handle details (when you use the door or drawer itself to open it, rather than adding a handle or a door knob).

There are sliding glass doors above the sink and in the island unit, which are also reminiscent of 1960s kitchens. Acid etched glass was used in the sliding doors and provided soft lighting when illuminated from within the cabinet.

Exposed ply edges were used as a design detail on the island and the edges of the cabinets. The interior cabinetry is made with oak and the drawers are made using solid oak with dovetail joints, making them incredibly strong. All the drawers are housed on full extension soft close hinges. An integrated fridge, freezer, ovens and dishwasher are all housed in the main sink run.

The client sourced the granite for the worktops and I made a solid walnut breakfast bar, which protrudes from the island. All doors and drawer fronts were veneered in my workshop so that the horizontal grain of wood flowed through the kitchen.
